Woman constable commits suicide

Police suspect her to have consumed poison that caused her death. Inquiry with the family members revealed that she was separated from her husband few years back and was depressed.

CHENNAI: A 33-year old woman constable allegedly committed suicide at the police quarters in Pulianthope on Sunday night.

Police said, Hema Priya, separated from her husband, was living with her mother and two children. On Sunday, she had finished duty and gone out with her friends. "She returned home and complained off stomach pain. Her mother immediately rushed her to a private hospital nearby where she died while undergoing treatment," police said.

Police suspect her to have consumed poison that caused her death. Inquiry with the family members revealed that she was separated from her husband few years back and was depressed.

Hema Priya joined the police department in 2003 and worked as a constable at Kothawal Chavadi. A case has been registered with the Pulianthope police station and investigations are on.
