Workshop on Mobile Learning

A two-day national workshop on ‘Mobile Learning: Communicating, Connecting and Collaborating’ was organised by Department of English, Loyola College, in collaboration with English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI). K S Antonysamy, member, ELTAI, explained that the workshop was organised to create an awareness of changing dynamics of teaching and learning environments; train teachers to integrate the use of mobile devices and related apps in their teaching practices; develop a mobile learning pedagogy and offer hands-on experience on the use of mobile apps.  

Radio City Awards for Indie Music

The celebration of Indie music reached its climax with the finale of ‘Radio City Freedom Awards – Edition 3.0’. The finale was held in Mumbai, where the best of Indie music got acknowledged amidst top performances. Nominations were invited across 10 categories — Young Indie Artists, Indie Collaboration, Rock, Metal, Pop, Hip-Hop, Album Art, Electronica, Folk Fusion, and Video. More than 600 entries were received across genres. There were 15 entries from Chennai for this edition. 

10 Finalists in Mrs Chennai Contest

Virgo Event Management presented its 16th edition of Praylady Mrs Chennai and 4th edition of Miss Madras which were sponsored by JJ Diamonds and Style One and held at Rani Seethai Hall. After careful vetting, 10 finalists in each category were selected out of more than 250 people who had registered for this event. These finalists went through grueling rounds in fitness, cookery, jewellery, table-setting and talent. Poornima Kumar of Virgo event management started this event to prove that marriage is not a barrier for the enterprising woman as she can still find time to develop her talents, a release said.

Design Conference at Vel Tech

Vel Tech Dr RR & Dr SR Technical University has organised the second edition of an international conference on ‘Innovative Design, Analysis and Development Practices’ in Aerospace and Automotive Engineering. The meet was inaugurated by the Olivier Lucas, director, Future Systems, MBDA Missile Systems. He elaborated the activities of MBDA and technologies being developed at his organisation. Philippe Arhets from the French Embassy received the first copy of the souvenir. 

Russian Cosmonaut Visits School

Russian cosmonaut Salizhan Sharipov visited Vidhya Matric School and interacted with the students on his experience in space. The Russion is a co-author and investigator for the advanced diagnostic ultra sound in micro gravity project. He has conducted two space walks and logged over 200 days in space. His presence made the entire gallery to stand on toes and shout with cheers.  School correspondent A Vidhyasagar  feliciated him in a traditional way by giving a poornakumbham. The students were elated to see a famous personality on their campus.

A National Meet on HR Practices

ITM Business School organised Cognito, a national conference, for students to bring up their intelligent thoughts to improve the practises in human resources, finance, marketing and operations in management. More than 60 students presented papers on emerging trends and challenges faced by industries at global level. The students made best use of the platform to present the research papers on several topics like work life harmony, performance inventory management, social media marketing, brand management and social responsibilities from industry perspective. The papers were presented in the categories like conceptual, empirical, descriptive and case studies. The students also examined viable strategies adopted by the companies. 

Legal Awareness Event for Women

A one-day legal awareness event on ‘Violence against Women’ was held at Chevalier T Thomas Elizabeth College for Women under the auspices of the EVE (Empowerment through Values and Education) for women centre of the college. The event was jointly organised by the Tamil Nadu Federation of Women Lawyers and Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development. Sessions on Domestic Violence Act, laws on eve teasing and obscenity, Dowry Prohibition Act and crimes against women were conducted by the advocates of Madras High Court.
