2K Students Get Degrees at Bharath Institute Convocation

CHENNAI: Over 2,066 candidates, including diploma-holders, undergraduates, post-graduates and Ph.D scholars were awarded 2015-batch degrees at the 28th annual convocation of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (Bharath University) held on Sunday.

Six honoris causa doctorates were also conferred on six eminent personalities.

Dr Sowmya Swaminathan, Director-General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), said that the process of drug discovery and development was long and complex and needed a set of different kinds of expertise. It is important to encourage innovations and the young talent pool of this country must strive to develop new research methods to overcome tasks that will benefit our people and the society, said a press release.

Vice-Chancellor Dr M Ponnavaikko said over 519 PhD scholars were pursuing research under 150 guides. So far, 145 PhD scholars have been awarded degrees and 7,969 research papers  published in the referred and scopus indexed journals.
