Unhappy Woman Hurls Daughter Into Well, Self

CHENNAI: A 25-year-old woman committed suicide by jumping into a well along with her three-year-old daughter in Neelankarai. Their bodies were fished out on Thursday morning from a well at Bharathi Avenue in Injambakkam.

Police said E Jhansi, who hailed from Odisha, was married to one Easwara Rao (28) in 2010. The couple were settled in a village  Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh and had a three-year-old daughter Pallavi.

Easwara was a graduate and was searching for a job in his native place.

Meanwhile, the couple had several issues that forced Jhansi to return to her in-laws house in the city four months ago.

Her father-in-law, Dharma Rao, worked as a security guard at a city-based doctor’s farmhouse in Bharathi Avenue for the past 20  years. Jhansi lived with her father-in-law and other relatives in a house at Injambakkam.

“Four days ago, Easwara Rao had come to Chennai and asked Jhansi to return to Andhra Pradesh to live with him. Tickets were booked for Jhansi and Pallavi to return on Thursday morning. Unhappy to return, the woman decided to end her life by jumping into the well along with her daughter,” said a police officer.

Jhansi was last seen after dinner on Wednesday night when the family went to sleep.
