Student Session on IP

Covering everything from patents to plant breeder’s rights, IIT Madras’ recent session on intellectual property saw spirited participation from aspiring entrepreneurs on Thursday. The students who had come from six different colleges in the city, had a spree of questions on the subject and G M K Raju, senior project advisor at the Centre for Industrial Consultancy & Sponsored Research and a part of the IP Cell at IIT was only too glad to answer.

The interaction was a part of a three-day entrepreneurship programme conducted by the Centre for Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CSIE), a pioneer research centre under the umbrella of IIT Madras, which ends today. Muhammed Aslam Sharief, a patent attorney, said that only 15% of entrepreneurs in most Indian metros have knowledge on how intellectual property works.
