Now, a Mobile App Will Lead you to Platform Where Your Train Awaits

CHENNAI: Wanna know the platform number of trains arriving at Central Railway Station? Just click this app to get the information on a real time basis.

In a first of its kind initiative, the Southern Railway has launched an app giving details of platform number, where a train would arrive or depart at Central. People can also use railway enquiry number 139, as platform allocation at Central Railway Station has been linked to the phone number.

“The NTES is a free app, which has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS) for Indian Railways.

This app can be downloaded on any Windows, Android or i-phones through Play Store or the i-Tunes App Store. It will also give information regarding cancelled, rescheduled or diverted trains,” an official statement here said on Friday. The facility will be enhanced to other major stations in a phased manner, the statement added.

The Southern Railway has further made arrangements for passengers to get information on platform allocation through phone number 139. Passengers can also receive their PNR status and information regarding time of arrival and departure of all trains by sending an SMS to 139. For information regarding arrival/departure time and platform number, passengers should send SMS to 139 as given: AD space Train Number space STD code of station/city. A response giving the details will be sent as an SMS to them.

This facility is currently available only at Chennai Central Railway Station, the statement said.

On an average, 55 pairs of express, mail and passenger trains depart from Central Railway Station every day.
