Couple Killed in Road Mishap on Highway

CHENNAI:  A couple was killed in a road accident on the Chennai-Bangalore Highway when they were returning home by two-wheeler on Sunday.

The deceased identified as Muthu (27) and his wife Nadiya (24), who resided in  Thamaraithangal village, ran a laundry shop. Sunday being a busy day for their work, the couple went to their shop, leaving behind their two children at home.

“They were returning home on their two-wheeler around 9.30 pm. When the couple travelling on the Chennai-Bangalore highway reached the diversion stretch leading to their village, a lorry coming from behind hit them, killing Nadiya on the spot,” police said.

Muthu was rushed to a hospital nearby where he succumbed to injuries.

Initially, a hit-and- run was registered which was later changed as lorry driver Chandrasekar (20) was arrested.
