CHENNAI: Even the dead are in the hunt for illegal mining! Dead persons have applied for permission to quarry gravel soil and sand in Thekkalur panchayat in Tiruppur district. Some permits were issued in favour of non-applicants.
In many cases, the permit holders disowned the signatures. Yet, there was no personal inspection by the authorities concerned.
All this showed the unholy nexus between the authorities concerned and the persons engaged in illegal mining, the first bench of Chief Justice SK Kaul and Justice MM Sundresh observed on Thursday and directed the Tiruppur unit of the CB CID to register an FIR against the persons concerned and proceed against them.
The bench was closing a contempt application from one D Prabakaran seeking to punish the Tiruppur District Collector and his subordinates for disobeying the court’s earlier orders.
The CB CID shall file a status report before the court on June 27, the bench added.
