Metro 'Suicide Youth' Critical

CHENNAI: A day after a 26-year-old techie jumped in front of an oncoming metro train at Vadapalani station on Wednesday, doctors said he continues to be in critical condition.

“The youth, Sudhaman, suffered multiple fractures on his leg and hip and has been placed on ventilator support,” said a hospital source.

The Vadapalani police claimed that the victim’s statement was recorded but no case has been filed against him so far. This is the first such incident reported since the Metro Rail became operational 11 months ago. Sources said, the boy had returned from the UK and was hunting for a job.

“Frustrated at being rejected in his job interview, the boy decided to end his life,” said the source.

On Wednesday around 8 pm, Sudhaman, a resident of Porur, jumped in front of a CMBT-bound train just as it was about to start.
