Long queues at reputed colleges for applications

CHENNAI: Students are queuing up for applications in reputed arts and science colleges with the results for class XII declared.

Many colleges like MOP Vaishnav College, Madras Christian college as well as Loyola College have been providing application to the students from Tuesday immediately after the results were announced.

Colleges like Loyola and MCC are using the online medium to provide admission forms while some like MOP Vaishnav College has started providing admission forms through their counters. Women’s Christian College said that the admission process would start in a couple of days.

MOP Vaishnav College, principal Lalitha Balakrishnan, told Express that the counter for handing out applications was open from 12pm to 4pm.

“This is the first day and due to the inclement weather we have kept the counter open for a short time,” she said.

From tomorrow, the counters will be open from 10am. Lalitha says that there is expected to be a huge demand for computer science and mathematics.

“Already we have received 850 applications and this is likely to go up. We have an intake of 50 seats for computer science and 70 seats for maths. The cut off marks is 90 per cent,” she said.

Of the total seats, 50 per cent is under management quota and 50 per cent on merit.

MOP is offering a new course in psychology which is also in much demand.

“Already we have received 200 applications,” says Lalitha.

Loyola College in Nungambakkam and Madras Christian College in Tambram has started giving admission forms Online.
