CHENNAI: Expressing concern over the failure of the heads of three connected departments in convening a meeting to discuss arrangements for the ensuing north-east monsoon, the Madras High Court directed them to file affidavits explaining reason for the same.

First bench of Chief Justice SK Kaul and Justice R Mahadevan said as rightly pointed out by A Narayanan, the petitioner in his PIL, meetings of the committee were held in breach of directions passed by the court on June 4.

Directors of Municipal Administration and Water Supply and Town Planning departments and Commissioner did not participate in the meeting.

“Let them file affidavits explaining their absence in the meet and as to why the meetings are conducted in breach of the orders for which purpose, even the Chairman and Managing Director, Chennai Metro Water Supply will file an affidavit,” the bench said and posted the matter for further hearing on December 21.
