CHENNAI: Getting a water supply connection from Metro Water remains a Herculean task for residents as they are being made to run from pillar to post.

As a result, some residents approach middlemen to get water connection as officials usually take lot of time and reject the application on flimsy grounds. Now, Metro Water has been forced to crack the whip following a lot of complaints over the role of middlemen in getting connections under Ullagaram Puzhuthivakkam Comprehensive Water Supply Scheme.

A Metro Water spokesman said action is being taken against complaints from residents in Puzhuthivakkam Bus Terminus, MGR Nagar and Aruljyothi Salai under the scheme. Applications for water supply connections to residents of these areas were issued on July 30.

“We have asked residents to get in touch with Metro Water officials only to access application forms as well as clarification towards obtaining water service connections,” the spokesman said. “We have also asked the residents not to engage any outsiders or middlemen for availing services of the board. The prescribed applications are self explanatory and for information people can contact assistant engineer (8144930168 ad 8144930169) and deputy area engineer (8144930267)," he added.
