Two-way traffic restored to 5 roads along EVR Salai

Five major roads along the stretch of EVR Salai between Gengu Reddy subway junction and Ega junction will be made two-way for traffic movement after nearly six years.

CHENNAI: Five major roads along the stretch of EVR Salai between Gengu Reddy subway junction and Ega junction will be made two-way for traffic movement after nearly six years. They were made one way in November, 2011 owing to the Chennai Metro Rail Ltd work.

Now, as the CMRL work is nearing completion, two-way traffic system will be implemented with effect from August 6 with some restrictions. The five roads include EVR Salai, Mayor Ramanathan Road (East), Mayor Ramanathan Road, Dr Gurusamy Road and Gengu Reddy Sub Way.

According to a release, entry of vehicles from Gengu Reddy subway junction towards Ega is allowed. Vehicles coming from Gengu Reddy subway towards Dasaprakash are allowed between 4 pm and 7 pm. Vehicles coming from Gengu Reddy subway junction intended to reach Vasu Street cannot take right turn at Ega junction and instead should reach Tailors Road and take U turn.

Same is the case with vehicles coming from Tailors Road towards Aminjikarai except the school hours between 7.30 am and 8.30 am and 2.30 pm and 3.30 pm.
Traffic modification were also made to reach Spurtank Road, Chetpet junction and Harington Road. Pedestrian crossing is provided on the EVR Salai in front of the Police Housing Corporation. Motorists are requested to co-operate, the release added.
