CHENNAI: Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni on Friday said that over 200 election-related complaints had been received so far for the by-election to RK Nagar Assembly constituency, which is scheduled for December 21.

Of them, seven were related to violation of rules and two related to distribution of money. Answering queries from mediapersons, the CEO said paramilitary forces would be deployed in RK Nagar from December 11 and in the first phase, 15 companies would land there. In all, 25 companies have been sought for security arrangements to ensure a free and fair polling.

“While campaigning, if candidates are accompanied by more persons than what is there in the list given to the Election Commission, the commission would calculate the expenditure to be incurred by them and add it to their account. If the candidate repeatedly makes this mistake, the candidate will be barred from campaigning,” the CEO said. Meanwhile, election officials have conducted a meeting with the candidates about the model code of conduct. The officials engaged in election works were also given training.
