JACTTO-GEO members begin indefinite fast in Chennai

The fast was in order to show their displeasure over what they called the lethargic attitude of the State government in addressing their demands.

CHENNAI: Around 200 members of JACTTO-GEO commenced an indefinite hunger strike on the campus of Ezhilagam on Monday morning, pressing their demands.

In order to show their displeasure over what they called the lethargic attitude of the State government in addressing their demands, around 200 members under the leadership of M Anbarasu, one of the coordinators of the outfit, and launched their agitation.

They demanded, among other things, revival of the old pension scheme, withdrawal of the new pension scheme, disbursal of the 7th Pay Commission arrears for 21 months to government employees and teachers, regularising those working on temporary basis for consolidated pay, minimum wages of Rs 18,000 for employees in consolidate pay, making municipality and town panchayat employees government employees and implementation of the Pay Commission recommendations for college and university faculties.
