CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday commenced disbursal of State government grant for 149 low budget films in Tamil produced between 2007 and 2014.
Film producer and director SA Chandrasekar and nine others who are among the producers of the 149 low budget films received the grant of `7 lakh each from the Chief Minister in person at the Secretariat. In all, the CM presented cheques for `10.43 crore.
The grant for other producers will be given in due course. An official release said a committee comprising retd judges R Reghupathi and TV Masilamani chose 14 low budget films for 2007. The number of such films chosen for the rest of the years as follows : 2008 (18), 2009 (17), 2012 (22), 2013 (12) and 2014 (23).
