CHENNAI: An advocate clerk and an operator in a computer centre have been arrested by CB CID in connection with fake FIRs to claim motor accident insurance.

Three months ago, a petition was filed on behalf of Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Company stating that the company had been receiving fake FIR documents claiming accident insurance. The matter pertains to death of Mohan in a road accident on February 9, 2017. His son Kapil Raj sought compensation for death of his father. Without meeting Kapil Raj, an advocate filed a petition before the Small Causes Court seeking compensation for the death. Three claim petitions were filed in the court by different advocates.

Justice PN Prakash said the court was satisfied that the allegedly tampered with FIR registered by Somangalam police, vakalats and claim petitions appear to have been forged. Hence, the judge ordered a CB CID probe.

Subsequently, Stephen of Pammal and Mohan of Ullagaram were arrested. Stephen was working as an advocate clerk and Mohan was working in a computer centre. Investigations revealed that Stephen allegedly used to scan original FIRs of accidents and Mohan used to change details, making multiple copies of FIRs and lawyers filed petitions to claim insurance, police said.
