NEW DELHI: Two student members of the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) were suspended on Wednesday after they were caught on video allegedly assaulting others students in North Campus.
The video which was shared on social media platforms shows the accused, Prashant Mishra and Vinayak Sharma, allegedly beating up AISA activists Raj Singh and Utkarsh Bhardwaj near Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College. Prashant and Vinayak were then nabbed from the spot by police.
“An FIR weas registered under the section IPC 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention)” a police official said.
“We condemn this act by the two students and advocate a violence-free atmosphere on campus. On basis of preliminary information, the two members have been suspended from the party for their act of indiscipline. An interim inquiry has been ordered to take further action," ABVP national media convener Saket Bahuhuna said.
Finally speaking out on the controversy which has hit the national headlines, Delhi University, Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi stated his opinion on the matter of Ramjas college incident.
“No slogans can destroy or prove anything in the university. DU is the best university which has been known for its good environment and education” Tyagi said at an Alumni interactive session.
Utkarsh and Raj had claimed that they were attacked by seven to eight people near Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College and strangulated with belts.
The incident happened when the AISA activists were returning from the Arts Faculty of the North Campus around 5.20 PM after the anti-ABVP march ended.
Meanwhile, a plea seeking actions and issuance of guidelines to law enforcement agencies while dealing with students and media on university campus has been moved at the Delhi High Court.
