NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has slapped a case against a Delhi university assistant professor for insulting the Hindu goddess Durga in a Facebook post.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Kedar Kumar Mandal, has been asked to join the investigation. Also, help has been sought from Cyber cell to secure evidences.
Mandal is an assistant professor at Dayal Singh College.
“We got to know that he has deleted the post but we have asked cyber cell to take appropriate action. Also, we will write to Facebook also,” a police official said.
Delhi police has filed a case against Mandal under sections 153A and 295A of the Indian Penal Code. These sections are hate speech laws which can bring imprisonment between three to five years or a fine or both.
“We demand his suspension and we request the student community to boycott his classes. Mandal has provoked sentiments during a festival time of Hindu - Navratri,” ABVP's Dayal Singh College unit alleged in a statement.
“If allowed to continue as a teacher he will only spread hatred among students,” it alleged.
