NEW DELHI: The incessant rain for the second consecutive day in Delhi-NCR on Friday affected vehicular movement resulting in inconvenience for daily commuters. For Saturday, the IMD has forecast light rain and issued a Yellow Alert.

Several parts of Delhi had reported waterlogging. Traffic snarls were reported at Hanuman Mandir carriageway, Libaspur underpass, Nizamuddin bridge, Phirni road near Najafgarh, Singhu border and other key routes.

The Delhi Traffic police took to Twitter and advised commuters to plan their journey accordingly as the IMD forecast light to heavy rain in Delhi and adjoining areas. Motorists also wrote social media posts on hardships faced following traffic congestion.

A user wrote, “Both sides of National Highway 44 are jam-packed. Alternate routes from Alipur and Holambi also witnessed heavy traffic.”

“Massive traffic congestion at Ashram. No police personnel are seemingly available for traffic management. A day of rain does this to Delhi, over and over again. I hope the Delhi Traffic Police is monitoring the situation. If not, we might be stuck here for hours.” complained another commuter.

A day ago, the IMD issued an “Orange Alert” cautioning people about the sporadic heavy rain – which could reduce visibility, disrupt traffic and damage kutcha roads and vulnerable structures. As per the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, twelve complaints of waterlogging had been reported in Delhi Dwarka, Sangam Vihar, Khichdipur, Khelpur and other areas.

Moreover, 16 more incidents of waterlogging were reported to the MCD at New Friends Colony, Defence Colony, Kalkaji, Jangpura, Modi Mill, Okhla and other areas.

Meanwhile, the Gurugram and Noida authorities issued a notice advising to close all private educational institutions for a day so that traffic congestion can be avoided, and repair works of roads and drains can be carried out smoothly.
