HYDERABAD: District authorities on Wednesday demolished all the encroachments in the premises of Badshahi Ashoor Khana in the Old City following the directions of the High Court. The State-declared monument had been occupied by scrap vendors since many decades. On earlier instances, the Archaeology and Museums Department with the help of district authorities made a futile attempt to vacate the encroachments but faced stiff resistance from the illegal occupants supported by the Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) partymen.
Based on past experience, the authorities pressed in hundreds of policemen to avoid any untoward incident. “We have an obligation to implement the court order and evacuations were taken up as per the order,” Director of Archaeology and Museums Chenna Reddy said.
He said that the Badshahi Ashoor Khana belongs to Qutub Shahi dynasty and was built in the year 1595 AD.
The monument was used for offering alms to the poor. “The monument is in poor condition and it requires restoration at the earliest,” said Chenna Reddy.
