HYDERABAD: Octopus, the premier investigating agency of the State, today filed chargesheet against seven accused in Gokul Chat blast which took place in August 2007.

Octopus named - Anil Shafique Sayeed alias Anique/Khaled/ Ashfaq/, Mohammed Akbar Ismail Chowdary alias Sayeed/ Yakub/ Vinod Patil, Riyaz Bhatkal alias Roshan Khan/Aziz/ Ahmed Bhai, Iqbal Bhaktal alias Mohammed Bhai, Farooq Sharfuddin Tarkash alias Abdullah, Mohammed Sadiq Israr Ahmed Sheikh alias Yaser/ Imran and Amir Reza Khan a l i a s Muttaki i n the chargesheet. Of the seven accused, Anik Shafique Sayeed and Mohammed Akbar Ismail Chowdary were arrested on January 31 this year, Farooq Shafruddin Tarkash and Mohammed Sadiq Israr Ahemd Shaik were arrested on March 25 and they were all lodged in Charlapalli jail. While the three other accused were absconding.

In its 1,207-page chargesheet submitted to the First Additional Chief Metropolitan Sessions Court, the Octopus had cited 159 witnesses and 221 supporting documents were enclosed. The Octopus after taking over the case has brought the accused on prisoner transfer warrants from MCOCA court, Mumbai, and carried out the investigation.

The investigations included reconstruction of the scene of offence, re-examination of witnesses, seizure of incriminating material, scrutiny of various documents including those having the hand writings of the accused. The chargesheet has been filed under Sections 120 (B) r/w Sections 302, 436, 121-A of IPC, Explosive Substances Act, 1908 and Sections 13 (!) (a), (b), 16, 18, 19, 20 unlawful activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 and Section (4) of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984. Octopus took up investigations of the case on November 30, 2008 and this is the first case it has investigated. The CCS and SIT did the initial investigation.
