HYDERABAD: Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy has asked the district collectors and officials of the vigilance and enforcement department to conduct raids on rice-mills, particularly those situated in Nalgonda district, to unearth and seize unmilled stocks of paddy.
Speaking at a review meting on the price of superfine rice here today, the chief minister was unhappy that superfine rice prices were still higher and rice-millers were keeping the stocks of paddy and not releasing the milled rice into the open market. He instructed the civil supplies commissioner to ensure that the department’s special counters were made functional and enough stocks kept at the counters. Fine and common varieties of rice should be sold at the controlled prices. He wanted the civil supplies department to see that fair price shop keepers lift their quota of palmolein oil and toor dal for supplying them at subsidised prices to the consumers. Meanwhile, the State has sought Centre’s permission to sell at least 6 lakh tonnes of boiled rice to the needy States, export boiled rice to other countries and dispose of maize to create a more godown space.
Finace Minister K Rosaiah, Chief Secretary P Ramakanth Redy, Civil Supplies Commissioner Sanjay Jaju, Director-General of Vigilance & Enforcement SK Jayachandra and Inspector- General AR Anuradha, Civil Supplies Corporation Vice-Chairman and Managing Director B Udaya Lakshmi attended the meeting.
