KAKINADA: JAWAHARLAL Nehru Technological University-Kakinada (JNTU-K) Vice-Chancellor, Professor Allam Appa Rao, has said that plans are afoot to introduce a course in Irrigation Engineering in the university soon. A documentary film on Arthur Cotton will also be shot, he added.
Participating in the 206th birth anniversary celebrations of Sir Arthur Cotton in the Civil Engineering department here today, he said Cotton had given liquid gold to the people of twin Godavari districts.
India would be developed on all fronts with the linkage of rivers across the country.
Old railway bridge and barrage on river Godavari were glaring examples of Cotton’s wisdom.
The land in twin Godavari districts became fertile on account of Cotton’s foresight, he said and added, “No one can forget the service rendered by Sir Arthur Cotton.’’.
The scientists should identify the long-term needs of the people and act accordingly.
Cotton proved the need for development of water transport by developing the irrigation sector.
JNTUK engineers’ association and retired engineers’ association jointly organised the programme.
