HYDERABAD: The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has expressed its dissatisfaction at Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal releasing the findings of a survey on the party’s performance in the Assembly and Lok Sabha polls.
``What is the need for him to release such a survey report before the media and when the results are going to be announced in another one day?’’ it has wondered.
The sitting MP from Vijayawada yesterday released the findings of a survey conducted by two private organisations which put the tally of the Congress at 155 (Assembly) and 33 (Lok Sabha).
The names of Assembly Speaker KR Suresh Reddy and more than 12 ministers (as against a total of 39) were missing from the list of winners. However, it predicted that YS Rajasekhara Reddy would become chief minister again and that PCC president D Srinivas would win from Nizamabad Urban.
The PCC is of the view that Rajagopal could have `leaked’ the information (survey findings) to the media instead of announcing it at a press conference.
There is resentment among the party’s candidates, including sitting MPs and MLAs, for not finding their names in the list of winners.
Rajagopal could face the candidates’ ire (after election results), particularly from those who lose the polls. It is not proper for the Vijayawada MP to release such findings before the announcement of election results, it feels.
The PCC has also taken exception to Rajagopal’s utterances on Telangana on many occasions when there was no need or occasion for him. His remarks had put the Telangana Congress leaders in an embarassing situation and it would be better for Rajagopal to remain silent on such contrroversial issues, the PCC feels.
