
HYDERABAD: Four persons hailing from Karnataka, involved in daylight robbery of a jewellery store employee in the city nearly a month back, were arrested on Tuesday. Property worth `8 lakh was recovered.
The robbery took place on November 3 when Jagannath, working at Vijay Jewellers in Bidar came here with `22.9 lakh cash to purchase gold on instructions of his employer.
During investigation, Central Crime Station (CCS) sleuths nabbed one accused, Mohd Najeeb alias Pappu who moving in an auto. On his confession, three others were arrested.
According to police commissioner AK Khan, the conspiracy was hatched by Md Farooq, who resides in Bidar.
He came to know that jewellers and their employees travel to the city with huge cash.
He then formed a gang with Niyamath Khan, Mohd Najeed, Shaik Waheed, Syed Nazeeb, Shakeel and Md Haji Khan to rob them and make easy money. Niyamath Khan, Najeeb and Waheed have settled in the city since the past few years.
“On November 3, they got information from one of their friends, Akash that Jagannath was coming to the city with Rs 22.9 lakh cash and decided to rob him. Shakeel boarded the bus along with Jagannath while Farooq and Najeeb followed the bus on a two-wheeler. The remaining waited at the Imlibun bus stand for the bus to arrive,” Khan said. They followed Jagannath and as he reached Madina, they threw chilli powder on his eyes and snatched away the cash. Police have arrested Farooq, Niyamath Khan, Najeed and Waheed while the remaining are absconding. Police recovered an auto, purchased by Najeeb with his share of stolen booty and more than `3 lakh cash.
