Born in Kanpur, Tashu Kaushik never dreamt of being an actress.
“Honestly, films were never a passion of mine. I wanted to pursue my Ph. D in economics as I am a postgraduate in economics from Mumbai University,” says the actress who made her debut with Darwaja Bandh Rako in Hindi and Raju Maharaju in Telugu.
“I got the opportunity to work with the RGV camp in Darwaja Bandh Rakho and there was no way I could say ‘no’ to that project.
My parents were obviously excited.
There has been no looking back since then,” adds the actress.
It was during the making of the film that she learnt the many different aspects of film-making.
“I got to work with very senior actors in the film.
I was amazed how they would become completely different people once the camera would start rolling. It was then that I became passionate about films,” says Kaushik.
Sridevi’s role in Sadma and Rani Mukherjee’s role in Black are some of the characters that the actress would love to play. “There are lots of characters and films I would want to do but right now I am new and trying to improve with every film. I am growing as an actor, though,” says Kaushik adding that it takes a lot of struggle to make it big as an actor in showbiz.
“I am a small-town girl. I have no godfather.
Though I feel blessed to have worked with good characters and production teams, luck plays a very important role in this industry,” says Kaushik who believes that there is always a price to pay for stardom. “Once you are a public figure, people look at you as a product. People forget that actors are sensitive people. What I do on screen has nothing to do with me as a person,” says Kaushik, who plays a journalist in her soon-to-be released film, Dushasana. “I was literally shivering at the muhurat shot as Srikanth is such a senior actor but he was very encouraging and chilled out,” says Kaushik, on a parting note.
