HYDERABAD: The Secunderabad railway police on Sunday arrested a car driver, who specialised in robbing train passengers of gold ornaments at railway stations, at his home in Ramnagar.

According to Railways SP (Secunderabad) M Kantha Rao, the accused, Dasari Raghu (35), had stolen 67-tola gold ornaments worth Rs 18 lakh from railway passengers at various stations in the city in the past two years.   “The accused is an expert in opening the zips of women’s hand bags in crowded areas and stealing gold and other valuables,’’ Kantha Rao said.

“During interrogation, he confessed to having stolen suitcases from running trains. ‘‘The accused is a car driver and is married. But he has an affair with a girl who encouraged him to commit thefts for money.

He committed thefts and pledged the robbed gold with Muthoot Finance to raise money,’’ he said.
