The image shows a bearded Daniel Craig - who is making his third appearance as James Bond - holding a Walther PPK, 007’s signature pistol.

The 23rd adventure in the long-running film franchise, Skyfall will place the relationship between 007 and character M, played by Dame Judi Dench, under pressure.

The first official synopsis states: “In Skyfall, Bond’s loyalty to M (Judi Dench) is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.”

Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem will play the villain and French model Bérénice Marlohe and Brit Naomie Harris will add glamour as the Bond ladies.

Rounding off the starry cast are British actors Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw.
