Central teams to assess crop loss

HYDERABAD: Two Central teams comprising eight members would visit the state from February 5 to 8 to asses the crop loss. According to official information the first team would visit Rangareddy and Ananthapur districts and the second team Nalgonda and Mahboobnagar districts.

The state government has sent a report about the crop loss due to drought to the Central government on January 10 seeking an aid of Rs 3,741 crore. Based on the report and request of the state government, the Centre has decided to depute teams to asses the crop loss before announcing the aid. Due to insufficient rain and dry spell, the standing crops were damaged in 22 districts in the state and many farmers committed suicides. The state government had announced 876 mandals as drought-hit.
