HYDERABAD: In a shocking incident, the body of a newborn was found abandoned on the banks of Bairamalguda lake on Wednesday. The infant’s body was found by municipal workers who were collecting garbage on the roadside abutting the lake and informed police. “The baby boy seems to have been born three or four days back. The delivery took place in a hospital and we are trying to trace the infant’s parents,’’ LB Nagar police sub-inspector Shiv Shankar Rao said. Police found a tag attached to the infant in which the baby’s mother name was mentioned. The tag read, Rajitha, wife of Venkat Reddy.

As there is a tag attached to the baby, police said its parents might have disposed the body after the latter’s death.

It might not be a case of abandoning the infant, police said. Meanwhile, police are verifying with hospitals in the city and other districts to trace out the woman with the name of Rajitha who had recently delivered the baby.
