HYDERABAD: Offenders posing as prospective tenants struck at the house of an elderly woman, robbing her of more than 15 tola gold ornaments at Vanasthalipuram on Wednesday. The attackers targetted the house of L Somasekhara Sastry, a retired bank employee, who resides in flat no 12 of Sharada Nagar. A portion on the ground floor of Sastry’s house was vacant and they decided to rent it out. Three days back, a couple came to the house and after going around the vacant portion, they expressed their willingness to take it on rent. On Wednesday, the couple came when Somaskehara was out and his wife, Savitri was alone. Saying that they wanted to see how the electrical connection was in the portion where Savitri and her husband were living, the couple managed to enter the house.

Once inside the house, the couple threatened Savitri to give away her gold ornaments. As Savitri tried to raise an alarm, the couple took out an iron rod from a bag and hit her on the head. The offenders later took away nearly 17 tola gold ornaments from Savitri’s body and while fleeing they threw the iron rod outside the house. Savitri was shifted to a hospital for treatment Police suspect a gang which includes a woman might be behind the incident
