Film Federation of India, which is the apex body of Film Industry of India has proposed a nation wide shut down on Feb 23 in protest against bringing the film industry and trade under the purview of service tax by the Government of India.

The South Indian film chamber also plans to file a case against the Government’s decision simultaneously and has first initiated the move for a general strike.

The film industry is already in trouble because of various forms of tax being imposed.

If the service tax is imposed it will cause a huge burden on several producers.

However, the Film Producers Guild, which consists of some of the top film producers of Bollywood, is not a part of the Film Federation of India.

If it is willing to join the general strike or not is still uncertain.

So all the steps are being taken for an all India movie bandh on Feb 23 so that no movies will be screened across India for a whole day
