Major fire at Hyderabad hotel

According to police, there were nearly 400 guests in the hotel at L B Nagar, when the fire broke out.

HYDERABAD: Fire crackers busted on the occasion of a marriage function sparked off a major fire in a hotel at L B Nagar on Sunday night. Though hundreds of people were reportedly present in the hotel at that time, no casualties were reported. The fire broke out in Sitara hotel near LB Nagar ring road. Though the hotel was covered with a glass facade, the management put up a massive flexi outside the glass facade. According to police and fire services personnel, two marriage receptions and a birthday function were being held in the hotel.n According to police, there were nearly 400 guests in the hotel at that time.

According to preliminary information, the fire was sparked by a fire cracker which was burst by a person who attended the marriage function at around 8.45 p.m. The fire cracker came in contact with the flexi on the fourth floor and the flames soon spread to the third and second floors and thick smoke engulfed the hotel. As the flames were confined to only one side of the hotel, fire service personnel and the police entered the hotel and managed to bring out the trapped guests safely.

Four fire tenders, one each from Moghulpura, Hayathnagar, Secunderabad and Malakpet, rushed to the spot and the firefighters had to toil for more than an hour to bring the flames under control.

The mishap led to a massive traffic snarl on the busy Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway for nearly two hours. Police said they would look into the fire safety measures installed by the hotel management and take necessary action.

The hotel was inaugurated recently. The loss of property is yet to be ascertained
