HYDERABAD: The mystery behind the killing of an eight-year-old boy at Shamirpet was unravelled on Friday with the arrest of the boy’s father and aunt.

The boy’s father reportedly confessed to have committed the murder as his son had come to know about the illicit relation between the duo.

The boy, M Babu was the son of Dasarath and Anjamma, who reside in the huts at Turkapally and eke out livelihood by begging and ragpicking. The couple have three children. Babu’s body was found in the fields at Kesavarama village on February 16 by locals.

During investigation, police found that Dasarath and his sister Rukamma were behind the killing. “Dasarath was having an illicit relation with his sister and Babu saw them in a compromising position on February 15. Dasarath grew suspicious that Babu might spill the beans and the duo decided to eliminate him,’’ Shamirpet police inspector Narender Reddy said.

In the evening, the duo took Babu to a toddy compound at Kesavaram where the brother-sister consumed toddy. Then they took Babu to the fields where Dasarath throttled his son.

According to police, Dasarath’s wife left him 10 days before the incident following a quarrel and took her other two children with her. During investigation, police questioned people near the toddy compound who told them that Babu was seen with his father and aunt the day before his body was found.

On interrogation, the duo confessed to have committed the crime. A case of murder was registered against the duo.
