HYDERABAD: The state government appears to be under the impression that a mini sports stadium can be built at a cost of `5 lakh, or, perhaps, even less.

It has sent circulars to district collectors recently, asking them to send proposals for construction of mini stadia at mandal headquarters with an outlay of not more than `5 lakh for each. The circular has been sent after it received proposals for constructing ministadia costing `2 to `4 crore each. Not long ago, the government announced that it would construct mini stadia at every mandal headquarters.

It asked the district collectors to identify at least five acres of land and send proposals to the government. Accordingly, officials sent proposals for construction of mini stadia, each to cost up to `4 crore. But the cost was too much for the government which was not willing to provide that much money.

Hence the latest communication to collectors seeking proposals on building ministadia at not not more than `5 lakh.
