HYDERABAD: Election to the posts of the city mayor and deputy mayor for the second term will be held at 11 am at the Council Hall of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's head office on Tuesday.

The election is expected to be a smooth affair and unanimous as the Congress and the MIM, the two allies, have an understanding to swap the posts for the next two years. Accordingly, the MIM candidate will become the mayor and the Congress' the deputy. For two years till now Banda Karthika Redddy of Congress was the mayor and Jaffer Hussain of MIM the deputy.

The election will be held by a voice vote or division, if required. However, it is likely to be completed in about an hour. The election was to have been held on December 30 but was postponed by a week.

The main opposition, TDP, is not going to field its candidate as it lacks majority. The MIM and Congress may announce the candidates only on Tuesday morning. District collector Natarajan Gulzar is the presiding officer and State Housing Corporation managing director Neerabh Kumar Prasad, election observer.
