HYDERABAD: A software engineer ended his life reportedly depressed over failure to reduce his weight even after medical treatment at Miyapur. The depression resulted in the engineer suffering from severe headache since the past few days, police said.

The software engineer immolated himself while his wife had gone to her parent's house for delivery of her first child. The deceased, K Chandrasekhar (35) was working as a software engineer in Intelli Group and residing at Hemadurga Plaza in Miyapur. "Chandrasekhar weighed over 100 kg and he was taking ayurvedic treatment but could not lose weight. He went into a state of depression and started suffering severe headache," Miyapur police subinspector G Sreekanth said.

On Tuesday night, Chandrasekhar brought a can of petrol to his flat and locked himself inside. "He doused himself with petrol and set himself ablaze. Neighbours noticed smoke from the house but they could not open the door as it was locked from inside. They broke open the windows and found Chandrasekhar in flames. The neighbours tried to douse the flames by throwing water inside with buckets and later managed to open the door by reaching through the adjacent window," the SI said. An 108 emergency vehicle was called in but the medical staff declared him dead. Police found no suicide note. A case under Section 174 (suspicious death) was registered and investigation is on.
