HYDERABAD: Trainee nurses of the Osmania General Hospital on Thursday staged a protest demanding action against the tutor, whose alleged harassment led to the suicide of a nurse.

A trainee nurse consumed poison three days back unable to bear her tutor's harassment and she succumbed on Thursday morning leading to protests. The trainee nurse, Priyanka (22) was studying the nursing course and residing at Tappachabutra. On January 2, she consumed Vasmol to end her life in her house and was shifted to hospital for treatment. Priyanka left behind a suicide note in which she alleged she took the extreme step due to harassment by her tutor in the nursing school, Rajni Solomie. Ever since the incident, trainee nurses were staging protests demanding action against the tutor.

After the death of Priyanka around 9 a.m on Thursday, the nurses intensified their protest and nearly 250 of them staged a demonstration in front of the hospital demanding action against the tutor. They later withdrew the protest after hospital authorities assured them to look into alleged harassment towards trainee nurses.Tappachabutra police inspector S Murali Krishna said a case has been registered against Solomie, who is absconding.
