HYDERABAD: A 17yearold auto driver was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a class X girl of a reputed school in Secunderabad.

According to Tukaramgate police, the 16yearold girl is a resident of Azad Chandrasekhar Nagar in Addagutta. The accused, who drove an auto, used to pick up the girl from school and drop her home. In the process, the auto driver befriended the girl and lured her in the name of love. "Both used to frequently meet and the accused sexually exploited the girl a couple of times,'' inspector S Santosh Kiran said.

The affair came to the notice of the girl's parent after her father's friend saw them at a food joint recently. The father then came to know about the girl's relationship with the auto driver. The girl's family reportedly approached the accused and asked him to marry the girl but he refused to do so.

On Sunday, the victim's father lodged a complaint. A case under Section 376 (rape) and SC/ST Atrocities Act was registered against the auto driver.

The accused would be produced before the juvenile court on Monday.
