Along with burning extra fat, power yoga also helps control a major health problem, thyroid. Power yoga is an evolutionary form of the traditional yoga, which in addition, has a specially designed practical and litheness training. The common thread between the usual poses of yoga and power yoga is that both of them lay stress on improving the flexibility and the metabolic rate of a person.

One of the main reasons for the development of thyroid in any person is high-stress levels which leads in the incapability of the thyroid gland to secrete hormones, which are essential for regulating metabolism. And, what better than yoga can suffice the situation.

Thyroid problem can lead to two conditions --- Hypothyroidism (excess weight gain) refers to the lack of thyroid hormones in the blood and Hyperthyroidism (excess weight loss) indicates the opposite which sees an excessive supply of thyroid hormones to the body. The symptoms vary on the abundance or deficiency of certain hormones. Some of the symptoms such as hair loss, memory loss, vitamin deficiency, low body temperature, disturbed sleep, and dry skin can be easily cured through regular practice of power yoga and diet control.

Power yoga also increases powers of concentration, calories burning capacity and stamina. It is also recommended for people suffering from chronic backaches, pulled hamstrings, knee injuries and also people suffering from cancer, asthma, insomnia, bronchitis and sinus.

Giving remedies for power yoga, Lakshman Sharma opines that “Power yoga includes Ashtanga yoga and Vedic yoga, where both body mind and breath works  simultaneously to build strength, confidence levels and focused thoughts. One should desire to dissolve in work without any expectations and should have balance of mind.” One of the thyroid patients Sujatha says that “I could only reduce my thyroid levels through medication but could not stay fit, but after following power yoga exercises I could see a drastic change in me with a decrease in thyroid levels and increase in my metabolic rate and could stay fresh the whole day”.
