HYDERABAD: It seems that while men were getting caught for drunken driving, the girls were having an easy time. However, the Hyderabad traffic police have now decided to be strict about drunk women behind the wheels.

"We will shortly be having women police personnel to check and detect drunk women," said additional commissioner of police (Traffic) CV Anand.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Anand said they had detained two women earlier for drunk driving but they were let off. "We faced some problems checking drunk women as we didn't have women cops," he said.

Traffic policemen will also be armed from now on with advanced breath analysers to check drunk driving. The Regional Transport Authority on Wednesday provided 25 advanced breath analysers, 200 digital cameras and 50 PDAs worth `40 lakh to the traffic police.

The advanced machines can detect whether a person is drunk and their Blood Alcohol Content, besides printing a slip mentioning the details of the driver, time, date etc, Anand said.

"Some persons detained for drunken drive have been misbehaving with policemen and trying to bring pressure on them to release the vehicles. It will not be possible now because every test will record all details," he said.
