HYDERABAD: A man shot and injured a miscreant who along with two others tried to break into his house in Patelnagar under Chatrinaka police limits in the wee hours of Thursday.

The condition of the miscreant, Tirupathaiah who hails from Mahabubnagar district is said to be critical. According to police, around 2 a.m, a threemember gang entered the house when the owner Sriramulu Patel's dog started barking. Sriramulu woke up but failed to notice anyone. About 15 minutes later, he heard a conversation and noticed three persons within his house.

On seeing him coming, the trio attacked him but Sriramulu who was armed, fired at least two rounds at them. One of the bullets pierced through the chest of Tirupathaiah and he collapsed. The other two gang members fled the scene. Sriramulu has a licensed .25 mm weapon, A Sitaiah, subinspector of Chatrinaka police said adding that Sriramulu is in the habit of carrying his weapon always. "Tirupathaiah suffered bullet injuries in his chest and ribs,'' police said. The condition of Tirupathaiah is said to be serious and he is presently undergoing treatment in Osmania General Hospital.
