Time for change

She made a great impression with Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd and Page 3.

Now, Sandhya Mridul is back in action, this time on your telly.

As the host of Channel V’s new show, My Big Decision, she will guide 14 young contestants who will take bold life changing decisions (liposuction, sex change and so on).

But before they make up their minds, they meet experts who either weaken or strengthen their resolve.

We caught up with the actress for the inside story:

Host with the most

This is an audience-based show and Mridul plays a crucial role.

“I mediate between the audience and the contestants.

I educate the audience about what the contestants are going through and open the forum to bold questions,” says the actress.

She guides the contestants through the entire process before they take a call.

Does she offer her inputs? “I share my experiences on certain topics.

The amazing part about the show is that my opinion doesn’t count here,”offers the host.

As real as it gets

“The transgender episode really shook me and taught me that it is not about sympathy but empathy, and what people go through,” recalls the actress, who is clearly excited about her new role.

“At first, the audience was very judgemental.

But after various conversations, the tables turned.

In fact, the contestants (transgenders) got a standing ovation for their battle.”

Her ‘big’ decision

“Moving to Bombay from Delhi has been my biggest decision.

I could relate a lot to the episode, which deals with this issue.

There is nothing right or wrong, it is just about following your heart,” says the actress who turned entrepreneur last year, with her own casting company, Outcast.

“That is another big decision.

There are times when you are not good at selling yourself but good at selling other people,” says the businesswoman.

A good start

The actress is a busy woman this year.

“I am touring for my play by Lilette Dubey this month.

I have heard two scripts, one of which I am assisting,” says Mridul.

As for us seeing so little of her on the big screen “I love acting too much to cheat on it,” she offers, adding that she would rather give the medium her best or nothing at all.

My Big Decision airs every Sunday on Channel V at 7 pm
