HYDERABAD: A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed in the High Court on Wednesday seeking directions to the state government and other authorities concerned with regard to proper usage and disposal of national flags made of paper and plastic in connection with the Republic Day celebrations.

The petitioner M Rajkumar, an advocate, said he was hurt for the ‘disrespect’ shown to the national flag on occasions like Republic Day by the government authorities.

He made the Union home ministry, Union cabinet secretary, state chief secretary, DGP, High Court registrar general and Hyderabad district collector as respondents.

“In the recent years I have noticed that the national flags made of paper and plastic were being thrown on the ground after the celebrations.

It is gross violation of Prevention of Insult to the National Honour Act, 1971 and the Flag Code of India, 2002,’’ the petition said
