Rebel MLAs Fail to Appear Before Speaker

HYDERABAD: Jagan camp legislators - Kapu Ramachandra Reddy (Congress) and Bhuma Shobha Nagireddy (PRP) - did not appear before speaker Nadendla Manohar on Wednesday to offer their explanation on why they had defied the whip of their respective parties on December 5 when voting took place on the no-confidence motion against the Kiran Kumar Reddy government moved by the Telugu Desam Party in the Assembly.

As matter of party policy, all the Congress MLAs who are in the Jagan camp, have decided not to appear before the speaker though they had been served notices to attend hearings on different dates this week.

“We have already explained our stand clearly in our resignation letters and there is no point in deposing before the speaker and reiterating the same reasons,” Ramachandrapuram Congress MLA Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose said.

He said there was nothing new that the legislators had to say.

They had clearly mentioned as to why they had defied the whip and voted in favour of the no-confidence motion.

Even if the legislators appear before the speaker, there may not be any change in their stand, he pointed out.

Meanwhile, Allagadda legislator Sobha Nagireddy reiterated that PRP does not exist and therefore the question of the party serving a whip on her does not arise.

The PRP had no right to issue whip as it had already merged with the Congress, she said.
