HYDERABAD: Padmashri and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee, Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant will premier her latest dance production, Kavyanjali - An Ode to Gurudev, on January 23, the opening day of the Sangeet Natak Akademi’s National festival ‘Natyanjali’.

Scheduled from January 23-28, the six-day festival is being presented by the academy as a tribute to the genius of Rabindranath Tagore through various presentations of dance and dramas by eminent dancerchoreographers and theatre directors acroos the country.

The festival is part of a year long series of programmes and activities under the umbrella of Rabindra Pranati, organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Tagore.

Kaavyanjali - an ode to Gurudev is a dance theatre production by Shankarananda Kalakshetra and will chronicle and trace the extraordinary far reaching impact of Rabindranath Tagore on Telugu writers, and their poetry.

This production is in collaboration with distinguished and well-known Tagore scholars, Dr Partha Ghose and Prof Mrunalini Chunduri.

Wh i l e S a t h i r a j u Venumadhav has composed the music and provides the vocals for the poetry, Sayantani Chakrabarti lends her knowledge and voice for the Rabindra Sangeet.

The dance production is choreographed and directed by dancer Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant.

The show will premiere at 6:30 pm at Ravindra Bharathi.
