HYDERABAD: Prof Ch Hanumantha Rao, former member of the Planning Commission and member of the National Advisory Council, has been appointed Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad for three years.

Born in 1929 in Karimnagar district, Rao did his PhD in economics at the University of Delhi and has also worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Economics, University of Chicago during 1966-67.

He has authored 10 books, and published over 100 research papers and articles.

Rao was also awarded Padma Bhushan in 2004.
