HYDERABAD: Chief electoral officer Bhanwarlal has said that all steps are being taken for smooth conduct of byelections for seven Assembly constituencies, to be held on March 18.

Speaking to Express on Monday, he said over one lakh cases of illicit liquor and arrack seized in the 7 segments till Monday. “I have instructed excise officials to keep an eye on liquor flow from neighbouring states,” he added. Bhanwarlal said the consumption of liquor would be banned for 48 hours 5 pm on March 16 to 5 pm on March 18. “I have also asked officials to ban jaggery used for making arrack.”
