Panel to draw up action plan

HYDERABAD: The State government has constituted a coordination committee for formulation of an action plan for the successful conduct of Convention of Bio-Diversity-2012, Conference of Parties to be held in Hyderabad in October this year. Principal secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development will be the chairman of the panel and GHMC commissioner its convenor while managing director, HMWS&SB, metropolitan commissioner, HMDA,  Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Hyderabad and Cyberabad and others will be its members.

The panel’s essential task is to improve coordination among all the stakeholders involved in the city infrastructure improvements and its beautification. The convention will have ministerial delegations from almost 190 countries. In the run up to the convention, each department will have to draw an action plan duly synchronising all the works that are required.

GHMC commissioner MT Krishna Babu on Tuesday held a meeting with officials and members of the Fine Arts College and architects on the various infrastructure and other beautification works to be taken up.

The GHMC is planning to mount paintings pertaining to the city’s heritage throughout the city in consultation with the Fine Arts Colleges. For this purpose, it has identified 20 corridors with 125 kilometres in length.

It is also planning to rope in major companies to adopt a particular stretch and help improve the same. The commissioner said he will personally take up the issue with the companies and asked the fine arts experts to submit their proposals by March 15 with cost implications and an innovative idea to improve the image of Hyderabad.
